40 MPG IN TOWN; 50+ MPG HIGHWAY
The car's odometer now reads 23,000 kilometers, which the previous owner said was legit. Dunno, but I think it is right since it runs like a new engine. Its provenance other than Bellingham, Washington, where I bought it, is not known, probably Canada via France. According ace Citroen and Panhard mechanic Ken Henry of Tucson, it is a legitimate 1985 Charleston, but registered and titled legally as a 1965. The paint is all original. The chassis has been completely galvanized to prevent rust (no problem here in Phx). I saw it sitting in the rain one day in Bellingham with a "For Sale" sign in its window, and two rainy days later I went to the car, opened the door, an Lo! -- not a drop of water in the car ... anywhere. No rust under the floorboards, no rust in the trunk; absolutely rust free, except for a little spot the size of a quarter on the driver's side door right where your arm would rest while driving. The car was given the once over by Henry who subsequently replaced heater pipes, checked the static timing --- btw, the motor has the 1-2-3 ignition -- fixed the turn signals (their behavior was erratic), removed and cleaned the gas tank and gas line, replaced front outer axle boots, replaced shocks, changed and replenished motor oil, gear oil, and lubed the car. The car purrs. New burgundy/black upholstery in January. This is a must see car. The only thing wrong with it is that the turn signal lever recently snapped off. Most places want $92-$96 for a new set up, so I'm still looking. Except for that, this is a car that needs nothing done to it at all. Forgot to mention that Michelin (skinny original type) tires are excellent. Ditto for the top. Body has a few highway rock dings, but only a few. This is a bona fide classic; keep it in good shape and its value will increase every year. (Last 2CV made in 1991 in Portugal) A great and practical investment. The air-cooled 2 cylinder 30 HP engine is renown word-wide for its durability and reliability. First-place winner of Southwest Unique Little Car Show in Prescott, Arizona..
